Peanuts

The peanut is a plant that grows quite close to the ground. The yellow –coloured flowers, fresh looking between the light green leaves, hang above the ground. After they have withered, the stem bends downwards and penetrates into the soil. The seeds develop underground. While ripening, the inner tiny fruit changes colour from white to light brown.

Peanuts grow on all continents and are cultivated in tropical and subtropical climates. In U.S.A, peanuts are grown in Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Virginia and Oklahoma. The peanut-producing countries the play roles with regard to import into Western Europe are: India, Senegal, South Africa, Nigeria, Sudan, U.S.A, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Egypt, Israel and China.
